Misuse Of Tithe

Christians need to hold their churches and pastors accountable for the proper use of tithes. Not all churches have this problem in the United States; however, many churches carelessly spend the Almighty’s tithe money.

It is a good thing to pay pastors reasonably well, so they can support their families properly; however, many churches pay lavish salaries to men who are not doing an excellent job in building the Kingdom of God. Taking this one step further, many churches have massive building projects that far exceed the need and benefit to the Kingdom of God. Both of these things are a serious liability to the Kingdom of God.

One church I attended was constantly asking for money, when the pastor was already receiving $100,000 dollars a year and maybe more including perks. This same Church had nice large buildings, but wanted to build bigger and nicer; even though, they were not yet to capacity. Most Sundays this same church had a sermonette before they took up the offering. They were constantly hammering and guilting the congregation to give even more. This same Church was loathe to show people the books on how monies were being spent. I boldly call this carelessness and unaccountability with the Almighty’s tithes and offerings and would say it to the face if given the opportunity. The Almighty does not give Church leaders a blank check with which to indulge themselves.

It is okay to preach once or twice a year about the importance and responsibility of giving. The Holy Bible does teach about tithing and supporting the work of the Kingdom of God; however, I am talking about the misuse of these monies.

Worldly people who are invited to be a part of our church services are oftentimes turned off to the church, because of begging for money and then trying to guilt everyone for not giving enough. Even many many Godly people tire of this way of operating and rightly so. Christ Himself talks about the disproportionate emphasis on tithing as compared to doing judgment, mercy and faith.

Matthew 23:23, “Woe unto you Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for you pay tithes of mint, anise and cummin and have ommited the weightier matters of the law: judgment, mercy and faith. These ought you to have done and not to leave the other undone.”

Nothing has changed from then until now it seems. Many church leaders are more worried about their congregation paying tithes, than they are in teaching the weighter matters of the Word of God. They may teach some on the weightier matters, but they go to great lengths to insure that the money keeps flowing into the church coffers. They are determined that the huge salaries continue to be paid and increased, and bigger and greater buildings are being built.

Let me tell you something: I am not going to support these types of ministries no matter how much they rant and rave against me. Supporting hard working ministries, that are working hard to properly spread the gospel and to properly build the Kingdom of God, is more important than their guilting sermons. I have been to third world countries, where the need is great and the work of the Church sure enough could use a helping hand from the wealthy Church in America.

I can almost hear some Church leaders saying: hey, we support missions. For those churches who are truly giving much to missions; I say, good for you! But know this, the Church as a whole in the United States is giving a very small percentage of what it takes in, to help our brothers and sisters in countries where there is severe lack.

Do not let your pastor guilt you about giving to very needy churches in poverty stricken areas. The Holy Bible teaches us to be good stewards. Don’t let your pastor tell you, that his Church is where all your tithes must go. I would insist on him CLEARLY showing Holy Bible truth for that assertion. I do not believe the Holy Bible teaches that and I invite them to be bold enough to reason this out with me personally face to face. I am well prepared to show them why they are wrong in this argument. Yes, we should give to the local work of the Church; however, the local Church is also obligated to rightly disperse of the tithe monies and not spend it wastefully. As far as I am concerned, if they are doing a horrible job in spending this money, then the people of that Church should give less there, and instead support the work of the Kingdom of God where it is being used wisely. If your pastor then tells you, that you should go down the road and find a different church, you let it go in one ear and out the other. Pastors too will give an account of how they disperse the tithes, that are meant for the work of the Kingdom of God.

Jeremiah 23:2, “Therefore, thus saith YaHVeH God of Israel against the pastors that feed my people: you have scattered My flock and driven them away and have not visited them. Behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings says the LORD.”

If your pastor and Church do a good job in dispersing the tithes, then be sure and help them out with your tithes and offerings. I am not teaching to be troublemakers; however, I am fearlessly teaching you to be wise to honor the Almighty with your tithes and offerings, even when your Church and pastor are being careless with the people’s tithes and offerings. Do not be afraid. Almighty God knows your heart.
