In Matthew 25:1 Christ declares, “Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto.” This story is about how it will be when Christ returns for the Church.

The story is about 10 virgins. Five of them are wise and five are foolish. The five wise took extra oil with them, and the five foolish did not. At midnight, there was a cry made, “Behold the bridegroom comes, go you out to meet Him.” All ten virgins arose and trimmed their lamps, but the lamps of the five foolish virgins were starting to go out. The five foolish tried to get oil from the five wise, but the five wise would not run the risk of their lamps going out. They exhort the five foolish to go to them who sell oil and buy for themselves. While the five foolish were gone to buy oil, the bridegroom came and the five wise virgins went into the marriage with Him, and the door was shut.

There are many preachers who teach, that Christ will come before the tribulation period for His church, and that some Christians will be left behind, BUT that they will have a second chance to get right with Almighty God. It is true, that some will be left behind for these are the five foolish virgins; however, Matthew 25:10 says, “AND THE DOOR WAS SHUT.” If you read the rest of the story, the five foolish virgins come later and ask the Lord to open the door and let them in, and He refuses to let them in. This story makes it very clear, that a person’s soul is on the line.

In verse 13 Christ goes further and says to watch, because we don’t know the day or hour of His return. Over and over Christ warns of the need to watch, to be vigilant, to remain prepared and ready. Christ is making it clear, that there is grave danger to men’s souls, if they become careless in their vigilance.

In John 17:3 read, “And this is life eternal, that they might know You the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” This word “know” means: to know absolutely or in other words, to have a deep intimate relationship with. The five foolish virgins knew Christ by acquaintance. They had spoken to Him before, but the five wise virgins had a deep intimate relationship with Him. He was not only a good acquaintance to them; instead, they were very close friends.

One of these days Christ will return for His church when we least expect Him to. Those who have a deep intimate relationship with Him will go with Him into eternal life, AND THE DOOR WILL BE SHUT! There will not be another opportunity for eternal life. Question: How is your relationship with Christ? Are you merely acquainted with Him, or do you have a close intimate relationship with Him. Your soul depends on this. WHEN THE DOOR IS SHUT, I hope that you will be safely on the inside. KNOW Christ and live.
